The Girl Who Pretended

Once upon a time, when pigs spoke rhyme, and monkeys chewed their eyeballs, there lived a little girl named Becca. Now this little girl liked to pretend that she was no normal little girl, so she sat in the window of her house and pretended.

"Today, I have bright pink hair!" she'd exclaim, running her fingers through her locks. "And I have eyelashes that touch the tip top tippy top of my forehead!"Then she's jump up and run to the mirror, admiring the view. In seconds, she had been transformed to a new person, nine feet three and two thirds feet tallish and lovelier than the sunflower she saw in the garden yesterday. Becca turned to see her shiny, shimmering hot pink hair cascading to the floor behind her. Each lock of hair curled around her little shoulders, down her arms, past her knees, and pooled on the floor at her feet, each bit pinker than the bit before. When Becca looked up at her face, she saw her beautiful pink eye lashes flow and glitter each time she blinked. Her cheeks grew rosy from her own attention, and she knew life was grand.

"Today, I will find a new friend!" she declared. For who would deny such a beautiful little girl? Becca jumped up and down on her tippy top tippy toes for a few minutes and sang a song with no words. Then she scooped up her hair, fold after fold after fold, into her arms and ran out of the room to find her lost best friend.

Sprinting outside into the yard, Becca looked around excitedly, turning and turning and turning until she fell down and dizzy. Where was her friend, she wondered, putting her head on the green grass to rest. Where was the playmate she was sure she saw outside?
